'Parti yeye': Air force vows strong action against offenders

Royal Malaysia Air Force’s (RMAF) top brass today issued a stern warning to its officers over recent allegations of wild parties being held inside military camps.

In a statement, RMAF chief Norazlan Aris said they are investigating the matter and vowed strong action if any military branch members are found involved in such activity.

"I, as the RMAF chief, together with the top leadership of the RMAF, deeply regret this incident and will not compromise on any misconduct or breach of discipline.

"A thorough investigation is being carried out, and firm action will be taken in accordance with service regulations.

"Any immoral activities carried out within our base are strictly prohibited as they tarnish the image and dignity of the RMAF," the general said.

Norazlan's (above, centre) statement came in the wake of the latest scandal hitting the armed forces, where its officers were alleged to have held parties that involved alcoholic drinks and escorts inside military installations.

Wild parties

Dubbed as "parti yeye", allegations of such activity surfaced over the weekend on social media, with some users publishing pictures of such events and urging the authorities to investigate.

Among the visuals that were spread online, one was allegedly taken at the officers' mess hall inside RMAF Subang air base in Selangor.

Some netizens also claimed that low-ranking officers were forced to provide alcoholic drinks and women from outside the camps for their superiors.

This prompted the Defence Ministry to order an investigation into these allegations.

'Do not tolerate corruption'

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, in a decree today, told the newly minted army chief, Azhan Othman, to ensure all members of the military branch uphold the values of integrity and trust in carrying out responsibilities.

The king, who is the armed forces’ supreme commander, stressed that corruption is the main enemy that can weaken the country's defence strength and credibility.

Hence, Sultan Ibrahim said, the army should not tolerate any form of power abuse and embezzlement.

"Before this, I have emphasised many times about the issue of ‘middlepersons’ or agents at the Defence Ministry… all of these individuals should not be allowed entry," the sultan said, as per a statement on his official Facebook account earlier today.

According to the posting, Sultan Ibrahim issued his decree to the new army chief when he granted Azhan an audience at Istana Bukit Tunku.
