Malacca CM awaits Akmal's official resignation letter

UMNO AGM | Malacca Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh today said he respected Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh’s announcement of his resignation from the state executive council.

However, Rauf said a decision will only be made after he receives an official letter from Akmal on the matter.

“As the head of the state, I will wait for the official letter for me to consider whether I accept or do not accept the resignation.

“It is subject to discussions that I will hold later,” he told reporters. He was speaking after the Umno Youth chief’s policy speech during the Umno Youth assembly held at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.

Elaborating, Rauf said he respected Akmal’s decision, which he said was in line with the Merlimau assemblyperson’s role as Umno Youth chief.

“I respect Akmal’s decision because he works for the youth. I will also examine and evaluate, from the perspective of the best method, how this issue can be managed in the near future,” he added.

Hang Tuah Jaya delegate Mubien Khairudin, when met by reporters, also expressed support for Akmal’s move.

He said Akmal’s action reflects Umno Youth’s firm stance.

“We have heard his policy speech earlier and clearly strongly agree with the Umno Youth chief. All this while, DAP has challenged us not once or twice, and we have been patient for three years,” he said.

He added that Akmal’s resignation from the Malacca exco showed a clear exercise of power and political principle.

“It means he is showing: ‘If I can do it, why can’t you?’ I believe the grassroots will understand the message that is being conveyed through this move,” he said.
