MCA veep says Zahid unfit to lead BN after retracting 'DAP Team B' claim

MCA vice-president Tan Teik Cheng said BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is no longer fit to lead the coalition following his retraction of a claim alleging the existence of a “Team B” within DAP.

In a strongly worded statement today, Tan (above) criticised Zahid for what he described as irresponsible leadership and a tendency to speak without due consideration, saying the Umno president’s actions had damaged BN’s credibility.

“Making such a claim and then hastily withdrawing it shows a lack of judgment and consistency. This behaviour does not befit a BN chairperson,” Tan said, adding that Zahid’s conduct had turned BN into a subject of ridicule and weakened public confidence in the coalition.

Tan argued that as BN’s top leader, Zahid should be mindful that his words and actions represent the entire coalition rather than personal emotions or political manoeuvring.

He warned that continued controversies would only accelerate BN’s loss of public support and render calls to “revive BN” meaningless.

He also claimed that Zahid’s leadership had sparked anger and disappointment among BN members and the public, describing the Umno president as a growing liability to the coalition.

Tan’s remarks come after Zahid expressed regret and withdrew his earlier assertion that DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke had acknowledged the existence of a “Team B” faction within the party.

Zahid said he regretted any offence caused and stressed that it was never his intention to portray DAP as divided.

“If that offended DAP, I withdraw what I said, but it was never my intention to suggest that there are or exist two camps within the party concerned,” he said.

Loke had earlier denied Zahid’s claim and said he never told the Umno president about any internal factions. He reiterated that DAP remains united under a single leadership and shared ideals, dismissing talk of “Team A” or “Team B” as baseless.

“There is only one team in DAP - Team DAP,” Loke said, warning that “divide and rule” tactics have no place in the party.
