Doctor shortage

  • Special incentives for doctors serving in East Malaysia are among the steps being considered to tackle the shortage of medical personnel throughout the country, Bernama reported.

Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said this is being considered by the interministerial special task force on the shortage of doctors and specialists in public healthcare.

“For a long time, the issue of shortages of doctors and medical specialists has persisted, and as a ministry based on healthcare facilities and services, with 151 hospitals, we certainly face various challenges.

“I am aware of this and have requested the (ministry) secretary-general and Health director-general to work together with the Higher Education Ministry, as well as the Public Service Department and the Finance Ministry to address this issue, particularly in Sabah,” he said.

Umno anniversary

  • Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh has urged party leaders to change their approach to increase youth support, focusing on outreach rather than an old mindset that youths will flock to the party just for its name built over 80 years ago.

In his speech at Umno’s 80th anniversary, Akmal, however, reminded that youth support and votes are not strictly tied to a candidate’s age, but rather an ability to connect and serve.

“Most importantly, youths do not want ‘touch and go’ candidates who come, gather them, take photos, and leave. They want to support those who genuinely serve,” he said.

The Malacca state executive councillor cited the party’s improved performance since the last general election, with a string of by-election victories, as a sign of revival that should be continued.

  • Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh expressed support for the party’s Negeri Sembilan chapter’s decision to withdraw its support for Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun.

Speaking at the Umno 80th Anniversary Convention, he said the move is proof that the party holds onto their principles and is willing to lose positions.

“We can be friends with anyone, but do not ever cross the line with us.

“Some people might say that we are just all talk, but I want to say here that what Negeri Sembilan Umno did is proof that Umno is not like a cow that can be led by a nose ring,” Akmal added.

He also warned allies in Pakatan Harapan not to mess with Umno, and the party is ready to fight if they are challenged.
