N Sembilan crisis: BN embraces PN, claims majority to form govt

Negeri Sembilan BN has welcomed the announcement by their Perikatan Nasional counterparts to cooperate, declaring that the two coalitions now have enough assemblypersons to form a new state government.

“In such extraordinary circumstances, the interests of the Negeri Sembilan people are above all partisan interests.

“We magnanimously set aside ideological differences to ensure a stable government can be formed immediately,” said a joint statement issued by Negeri Sembilan BN assemblypersons.

BN - through Umno - controls 14 seats in the 36-member assembly, while PN has three seats under PAS and two seats under Bersatu. Together, they would have 19 seats, which is just enough to reach a simple majority.

The statement came after the five PN assemblypersons held a press conference in Seremban earlier today to announce their readiness to cooperate with BN, shortly after BN declared a loss of confidence in Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun.

The five PN assemblypersons consist of three from PAS, Kamarol Ridzuan Zain (Paroi), Abdul Fatah Zakaria (Bagan Pinang), and Fairuz Isa (Serting), as well as two from Bersatu, Hanifah Abu Baker (Labu) and Ridzuan Ahmad (Gemas).

Hanifah, who is also the opposition leader, said their move was aimed at ensuring the stability of the state government following an alleged “leadership crisis”.

“This is to develop Negeri Sembilan and to safeguard the well-being of the people,” he added.

They also expressed their willingness to cooperate through an official letter, which was hand-delivered to state Umno secretary Mustapha Nagoor during the same event.

Aminuddin reportedly sought an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir today, amid the state leadership crisis.

The New Straits Times reported that Aminuddin, who attended an awards ceremony at SMK Datuk Muhammad Yusof in Linggi, Negeri Sembilan, this morning, left abruptly at 11am to seek an audience with the ruler, who is believed to be in Kuala Lumpur.
