Pig farming

  • The process of vacating pig farms in Tanjong Sepat is nearing completion, with about 11,000 pigs remaining at approximately 30 farms still operating in the area.

According to Harian Metro, Selangor Infrastructure and Agriculture exco Izham Hashim said all the remaining livestock had yet to reach maturity for disposal or slaughter since the closure order was issued in February.

“No new stock (piglets) has been brought in and all of them will be slaughtered at the abattoir in Rawang.

“So, the process is being carried out in stages and we expect it to be completed soon,” he said when met at the Selangor Press Photographers Association’s (Wajar) korban programme at Surau Haji Hassan in Sijangkang today.

Religion and policy

  • Amanah’s arts, culture and sports bureau has called for greater clarity from the government regarding proposals to position Kuala Lumpur as an entertainment hub.

This followed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh's recent remark that Kuala Lumpur is set to emerge as a leading player in the regional entertainment circuit, with the government committed to slashing red tape and accelerating approval processes for international events, Bernama reported.

In a statement today, the bureau's chairperson Wan Anwar Wan Ibrahim stressed that entertainment-related policies must keep Islam's position as the religion of the federation, the status of the Malays and the sensitivities of the Malay-Muslim community central to policy decisions.

Wan Ibrahim added that the development of arts, culture and entertainment could still be pursued in a healthy, creative and progressive manner without disregarding religious values, cultural boundaries and social harmony.

He said that the bureau is prepared to meet Yeoh to seek further clarification and exchange views professionally on Kuala Lumpur’s readiness and direction on the matter.

Train derailed

  • Rapid KL confirmed one of its trains had derailed while passing through the track switch area near Chan Sow Lin station this morning, causing disruptions along the Ampang-Sri Petaling line.

In a statement today, Rapid KL said that there were 25 passengers on board during the incident, who were safely evacuated. No injuries were reported.

Rapid KL said alternative trains were activated, with trains from Sentul Timur turning back to the Pudu station, and Putra Heights trains turning back to the Bandar Tasik Selatan station, with both operating at four-minute intervals.

Meanwhile, shuttle trains are also provided between the Ampang and Pandan Jaya stations and between the Cheras and Bandar Tasik Selatan stations.

Rapid KL further said that free shuttle buses are also available at Hang Tuah, Chan Sow Lin, Maluri, Cheras and Pandan Jaya stations with 15 to 20 minutes intervals, depending on the traffic.

Politics

  • Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz stressed that cooperation involving Bersatu and Pakatan Harapan has never been discussed on any party meeting platform.

Tun Faisal, in a statement today, also dismissed claims that Bersatu would join Harapan through the role allegedly played by the party’s secretary-general, Azmin Ali, as being completely untrue.

“Not true. It has never been discussed in the political bureau, the supreme council, or in any informal discussions within the party.

“If there were any efforts in that direction, there would surely be signs or indications of movements or operations towards it,” he said.

He also described the purported plans for cooperation as illogical, given that Bersatu was among the parties that brought down the Harapan government after the 14th general election.

  • PAS’ syura council will determine the direction of the party’s and Bersatu’s political pact, the Islamist party’s vice-president Amar Abdullah said.

Berita Harian reported him saying that presently, PAS is still awaiting a full report from the leadership of the Perikatan Nasional coalition, before any decision can be made.

“For now, we are still waiting for a report from the leaders of the component parties within PN.

“Once the report is completed, it will be presented to the syura council for further scrutiny. We need to wait for the report to be finalised first,” he was quoted as saying.
