1MDB 

• The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) has obtained a court order to forfeit a luxury New York condominium purchased with misappropriated funds from 1MDB, along with related rental income.

  The property was acquired using stolen funds for the benefit of Catherine Tan, the personal assistant of fugitive businessperson Low Taek Jho, or Jho Low. She also benefited from rental proceeds from the unit.

  

  The DOJ’s Money Laundering, Narcotics and Forfeiture Section is prosecuting the civil forfeiture case, with support from agencies including the FBI and US Marshals Service.

  The DOJ noted that Malaysian authorities - including the Attorney-General’s Chambers, police, and MACC - provided significant assistance in its investigations and related civil and criminal proceedings as part of broader international cooperation to trace and recover assets linked to the case.
