• Petaling Jaya PSM has welcomed the Health Ministry's statement that it has identified the Taman Medan sports complex as a potential site for a new government hospital in Petaling Jaya.

  Citing it as a victory for the people, chairperson G Gandipan Nantha and secretary Cheong Huei Ting called on the government to clearly communicate the project's timeline to the public - when construction will begin and when it will be completed.

  The duo also reiterated its demand that the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre’s (UMMC) user charges be reduced to pre-2025 levels, at least, until the new hospital is operational.

  "The cost hike that came into effect earlier has placed an unfair burden on ordinary patients who have no choice but to seek care there. This must be reversed," the duo said.

  They also called for every hospital or health clinic project that has been paused or cancelled to be reviewed and reinstated, pointing to the long-delayed and then subsequently shelved Maran Hospital project.

• Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung also welcomed the swift action taken by the Health Ministry and the Selangor government to identify Taman Medan as the proposed site for the new public hospital in Petaling Jaya.

  

  Although the site was not among those previously discussed by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), Lee described the development as significant.

  Lee also noted that, amid the government’s emphasis on fiscal discipline and spending cuts, large-scale public healthcare projects require a clear timeline and implementation plan to ensure they do not remain merely at the announcement stage.

  He added that with Petaling Jaya’s growing population and the increasing demand for public healthcare services, he would continue pressing for the hospital project to be realised as soon as possible.
