Hadi: Up to Muhyiddin to decide Bersatu's status in PN

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang stressed that his party’s relationship with Bersatu has effectively ended, and that the decision on whether the latter wants to remain in Perikatan Nasional rests with Muhyiddin Yassin.

PAS has also agreed to the entry of Parti Wawasan Negara led by former Bersatu deputy president, Hamzah Zainudin, into PN.

This comes at a time when Bersatu’s position within the opposition coalition has become fragile.

“PAS has agreed and we have already parted ways with Bersatu. So, it is up to them whether they want to leave or stay, it is entirely their decision.

“But there is no issue with Parti Wawasan Negara joining PN,” Hadi said at a press conference after the Reset convention in Tanah Merah, Kelantan, today.

The Marang MP revealed that PAS previously proposed that Bersatu readmit ousted party members.

“We proposed that they take back those who were expelled or suspended, but Bersatu did not accept it; it went that far, and we have a letter from the secretary-general,” Hadi added.

‘No new political alignment’

The PAS chief dismissed suggestions that recent developments within the opposition front point to the emergence of a new political alignment involving his Islamist party.

“We are continuing what we have already been doing. There is no new alignment,” Hadi said.

Meanwhile, PN chairperson Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the future direction of the coalition will be decided collectively with component parties that remain within it.

“We do not make decisions individually; we decide through consultation with partners who are loyal to PN,” the PAS vice-president said.

Samsuri added that any party wishing to join PN must first submit an application before being taken for discussion.
