Politics

  • Bersatu secretary-general Azmin Ali has denied rumours of a Perikatan Nasional supreme council meeting at the party’s headquarters tonight, The Star reported.

"(The poster) is AI and it is fake. Nothing’s happening at the Bersatu headquarters. There is no PN supreme council meeting scheduled and Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin never made any such call," Azmin reportedly said.

A poster featuring an AI-generated image of Muhyiddin announcing a separate PN gathering by Bersatu at 8pm today has gone viral on social media.

The Star reported that a statement from Bersatu Youth also urged supporters to arrive an hour earlier, and to wear the coalition’s blue attire.

  • The Perikatan Nasional supreme council will decide on the use of the coalition’s logo and seat allocations for the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections at a meeting on June 22, said coalition information chief Annuar Musa.

“So far, nothing has been decided on the seat allocations, as it is something that has to be determined by the PN supreme council.

“Hence, there is no need for any speculations or assumptions that someone wants to contest using a different flag or oust Bersatu (from PN),” Utusan Malaysia reported him as saying.

Annuar added that there is no issue with Bersatu remaining in PN, as long as the party does not breach the coalition’s regulations.

Immigration policies

  • Holders of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) cards are not exempt from enforcement action and remain subject to Malaysian laws if they commit offences.

Bernama reported Immigration Department director-general Zakaria Shaaban as saying that the Home Ministry is conducting a comprehensive registration exercise for all refugees in Malaysia, including both UNHCR cardholders and those without documentation.

He said the initiative was introduced because the government no longer wants to rely solely on UNHCR data to determine the actual number of refugees in the country.

Judiciary

  • Chief Justice Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh said public trust is the judiciary’s most valuable asset and must be earned through integrity, accountability and consistent conduct.

Speaking at the inaugural Tun Zaki Azmi Lecture titled “Leading with Courage, Stewarding Justice” at the Asian International Arbitration Centre, he said institutional leaders must be willing to make difficult decisions and work towards leaving behind stronger institutions for future generations.

Bernama reported him as drawing on the legacy of former chief justice Zaki Azmi as an example of leadership that strengthened public confidence in the judiciary.

Wan Ahmad reportedly said that leadership responsibilities also often involve unseen and pressured decision-making, adding that such contributions are vital to institutional strength.
