PKR information chief Tian Chua was said to have “landed on a policeman” while being forcibly removed from a vehicle during a police operation outside Parliament House last December.

Chief Inspector Sazali Ahmad testified in the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s court today he and six officers had taken up positions in the area on Dec 11.

“The operation was to bar anyone from entering the Parliament compound to hand over a memorandum (to members of Parliament) to protest the extension of Election Commission chairperson Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman’s tenure,” he told the court.

bersih parliament police blockade memo 111207 tian chua Sazali said Chua was in a car that was stopped by police, but that he had refused to comply with a request to step out of the vehicle.

To questions by Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Hanafiah Zakaria, Sazali said he then ordered two officers to remove Chua from the car.

“I opened the front left door of the vehicle to allow Constable Rosyaidi Annuar to enter the passenger seat to pull the accused out of the vehicle,” Sazali said.

“Lance Corp Amran entered the vehicle through the back seat and pushed Chua towards Rosyaidi. Suddenly, Rosyaidi fell and the accused landed on top of him.”

bersih parliament police blockade memo 111207 tian chua hauled Sazali described in detail how the police officers carried Chua into a patrol car, after which he was taken to the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters.

“It was only then that Rosyaidi told me that he had been bitten by Chua. I advised him to seek treatment and lodge a police report,” he said.

Chua is charged under Section 32 of the Penal Code, with intentionally causing injury to a police personnel on duty. If found guilty, he can be fined, jailed up to three years or both.

The case is being heard before Magistrate Tasnim Abu Bakar. Counsel Ranjit Singh is representing Chua. The hearing continues on Friday.

Chua was among the 26 individuals arrested near Parliament that day. They were there to support the handing over of a memorandum by the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections.

Prior to the event, the police had obtained a court order barring anyone from participating in the event.

At last month's general elections, Chua was elected as representative for the Batu parliamentary seat in Kuala Lumpur.
