SNAPSHOT | Chopper with 5 inside crashes in S'wak; ex-minister remanded in Tabung Haji probe released

Air crash

• A helicopter operated by the Flying Doctor Service crashed near the Long Lellang specialised airport in Sarawak about 4pm today, said the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).
  
  CAAM said the BO-105 helicopter was carrying five people on board, including its pilot, when the incident happened. It was notified of the crash at 3.58pm.

  

  "The Air Accident Investigation Bureau, under the Transport Ministry, will investigate the incident in accordance with Part XXVI of the Civil Aviation Regulations 2016," CAAM said in a statement.
  
  So far, there has been no news on the status of the people onboard.
  
  Initial information received indicated that the four others are medical personnel, including at least one doctor.

Tabung Haji investigation

• A former minister who was remanded as part of the probe into losses suffered by Tabung Haji has been released on bail, Sinar Harian Online reported.
  
  This was confirmed to the Malay daily by MACC chief commissioner Abdul Halim Aman.

  

  It was previously reported that former religious affairs minister Jamil Khir Baharom had been remanded in the investigation linked to the Tabung Haji royal commission of inquiry.

Political financing 

• A proposed financing law to regulate how politicians and parties source money has received positive responses from the public and stakeholders according to senior government officials.
  
  Associate professor Zuraidah Ali, who headed a team conducting the study on behalf of the government, said the majority of respondents or 88.24 percent of 3,422 who were surveyed, supported such a law.
  
  Bernama reported that the study also proposed that the new law set up a body to oversee donations, including the source of such funds, and mechanisms for reporting and punishment.
  
  Meanwhile, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Azalina Othman Said said the Prime Minister’s Office’s Legal Affairs Division has been tasked with gathering the official positions of all political parties concerning the proposed law.
