Loss-making national carrier Malaysia Airlines expressed disappointment at further delays in deliveries of its Airbus A380 super-jumbos but said they will not hurt its recovery plan.

"We are very disappointed with this further delay and are currently awaiting a clear delivery plan from Airbus.

"Malaysia Airlines ... will continue discussion with Airbus on this matter," the ailing carrier said in a four-paragraph statement.

Malaysia Airlines said it will also consider and assess all available alternatives and options, adding that its business plan should not be affected by the latest problems with the Airbus giant.

"The further delay will not impact our business turnaround plan as we will be able to adapt to the changes required," said Tengku Azmil Zahruddin, executive director of Malaysia Airlines.

Malaysia Airlines in June said it was reviewing the terms of its purchase agreement for six A380 jets after Airbus advised that technical problems meant a sharp cutback in planned deliveries.

As part of a restructuring plan, the airline has axed a number of domestic and international routes and will cut its workforce by 6,000 employees over two years.

It announced the turnaround plan after posting losses of RM498.2 million in the first half to June.

It hopes to be back in the black by 2007 and to achieve record profitability the following year.
