Sexy outfits have been banned in Kelantan ruled by Islamic party PAS, which has introduced fines for women working in shops and restaurants who dress "indecently".

Mini-skirts, see-through blouses and tight trousers are now off-limits for women of all religions in Kelantan, after authorities said they would "no longer tolerate indecent dressing", the Star newspaper said.

Kelantan's local government committee chairman Takiyuddin Hassan said "eye-popping" outfits invited undesirable attention from men.

"We apologise to non-Muslims if this comes across as harsh, but we must respect our Asian culture and religion in public," he said.

Enforcement officers will step up checks to enforce the regulation, which is punishable with a RM500 fine, officials said, citing mounting complaints from the public over skimpy outfits.
