Cops quiz Dr M

Police have taken Dr Mahathir Mohamad's statement in relation to a probe against the nonagenarian for allegedly insulting the monarchy.

The statement was taken on Aug 29, almost three months after the probe was launched in early June.

Police also took statements from Mahathir's close associates Khairuddin Abu Hassan, and former Pejuang deputy president Marzuki Yahya.

BN's logo problem

BN appears to have a logo problem going into the Johor twin by-elections.

Specifically, Johor BN is concerned that their long-time supporters will get confused when they don't see the coalition's iconic "dacing" (scales) logo on the ballot paper on Sept 9.

Johor BN chief Khaled Nordin is also concerned that BN supporters may "waste" their ballots by voting for those who seek to replace Umno and BN.

Tasik Chini healing

After decades of having its waters polluted from silting and leaching of chemical residues from mines, Tasik Chini is on the path to recovery.

Lotuses are blooming in the lake again, and water tests on samples taken by Malaysiakini showed low concentrations of heavy metals compared to findings in 2016 and 2020.

While experts say it’s too early to celebrate, there is optimism that Tasik Chini may one day return to its once pristine glory.
