Anwar, UEC, and history
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim weighed in on the UEC debate, saying that as long as the priority is to master Bahasa Malaysia, then he has no issues with the certification.
This is in line with DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke saying that ratification of the UEC would be party of a policy that would also uplift the Malay language.
However, some had interpreted Anwar’s remarks as the prime minister rejecting UEC recognition.
UEC recognition has been a pivotal part of Pakatan Harapan’s pledge to the public.
It was part of their 2018 and 2022 general election campaign promises.
In 2018, Anwar himself said that UEC recognition posed no threat to the Malay language.

Rosmah stays off the hook
The prosecution dropped its appeal against the High Court’s decision last year, acquitting Rosmah Mansor of charges of money laundering RM7 million and failing to declare her income to the Inland Revenue Board (IRB).
The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) said the decision was made because there is no prospect of conviction if the appeal were continued.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim washed his hands of the decision, passing the buck to his predecessor Dr Mahathir Mohamad and former attorney-general Tommy Thomas.
