Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, often mocked with the moniker 'Mahafiraun' for his perceived totalitarian ways, squared off against student activists Anis Syafiqah Md Yusof of Tangkap MO1 fame.
The good doctor and the student activist discussed the University and University Colleges Act (UUCA), implemented under his tenure as PM, credited with curtailing student activism.
This took place at a forum organised by student group Challenger last night, which took place at Malaysiakini's open air multimedia stage, before its Press Freedom Wall which awkwardly recounted crimes against media freedom, mostly committed by the powers that be under Mahathir's watch.
