Human Resources Minister Steven Sim has described the Dewan Rakyat’s approval of the Employees' Social Security (Amendment) Bill 2025, which introduces the LINDUNG 24 JAM scheme, as a historic game-changer.
He said this marks the first time since 1969 that the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) will provide employees with comprehensive, round-the-clock coverage - including protection outside of working hours.
“Malaysian workers will now be protected 24 hours a day, seven days a week, all the time, any time.
“This will reduce cost for our workers, their families, employers, and for the government,” he said in a statement today.
Sim (above) estimated that in the first year of implementation, the LINDUNG 24 JAM protection scheme could save up to RM600 million of taxpayers’ money in medical expenses and welfare aid.
Yesterday, the Dewan Rakyat passed the Employees’ Social Security (Amendment) Bill 2025, which, among other measures, seeks to introduce the LINDUNG 24 JAM scheme, providing employees with comprehensive coverage at all times.
Sim said the implementation of the scheme would benefit nearly 10 million formal workers nationwide.
