A group of PKR Youth members today gathered outside the Selangor state secretariat building in Shah Alam calling for the resignation of Port Klang assemblyperson Badrul Hisham Abdullah.

NONE The 30-strong crowd, armed with banners, assembled outside the state secretariat gates since 9.45am.

A police truck with about 10 uniformed police personnel were deployed at the scene for crowd control.

Initially, the protesters wanted to remain in front of the gates but after negotiations with the police, they agreed to take their grouses into the state secretariat grounds.

They then marched to the front of the state assembly building, chanting: "Badrul, step down!"

The group was led by Selangor PKR Youth leader Khairul Anuar Ahmad Zainudin and information chief Lee Khai Loon.

The protesters had planned to wait for Badrul to arrive, but the group was later notified that the state assemblyperson was already in the building.

Badrul refuses to show up

NONE The infuriated crowd then loudly demanded that the state assemblyperson come out to meet them, and chanted: " Adun gagal " and " Tak layak ".

Following this, a representative was sent in to 'invite' Badrul to come out.

An officer to Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim then met with the PKR Youth leaders and agreed to act as an intermediary.

Shortly thereafter, Heng Yong Sing, the private secretary to Speaker Teng Chang Khim, told the protesters that neither Badrul nor his representative will be meeting them.

This angered the protesters further, who responded by chanting: "Coward".

The PKR Youth leaders then handed a letter and a 11-point memorandum to Heng, asking him to pass the document to Badrul.

NONE Speaking to reporters later, Khairul said the protesters wanted to submit the letter and memorandum to the state rep on why he should vacate his elected post.

"We don't care which party he is joining, he can join Umno, he can join MCA or MIC. But he has failed in his duties to the people of Klang. A Pakatan Rakyat rep must serve the people," he said.

"Despite being given the opportunity to correct himself, Badrul continued to be lax in his duties, this is why the Selangor MB asked him to quit and we support this," he added.

Badrul had recently quit PKR and declared himself a Barisan Nasional-friendly independent.

Among others, the state rep said his decision to quit the party was based on "religious and moral" principles.

Speaker: I'm not a postman

NONE In a related development, the Selangor speaker was incensed with the PKR Youth protesters for asking him to play messenger boy.

"I'm not a postman!" thundered Teng, when quizzed on the letter and memorandum handed over to his private secretary.

Refusing to be the middleman, the speaker said: "If they dare, let them ask the MB to deliver the memo."

He also chided PKR Youth for staging the protest outside the state secretariat building, saying they should have delivered the documents to Badrul at his house.

He also refused to elaborate on his decision to quit PKR.

"Everything that has to be said about the matter has already been said."

During the proceedings in the House, Badrul was seated with the BN reps.
