This is in reponse to Chan Kim Beng’s letter addressed to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng on Sept 9 ‘ Penang's sPICE project 'win win' for whom? ’

We, the residents of Sunway Tunas Bayan Baru (next door to PISA) where the Subterranean Penang International Convention and Exhibition (sPICE) is to be set up, are very happy with what Lim is doing to bring about more business and economic growth for the state of Penang.

I am sure the growth that you see happening in Bayan Baru lately, is a blessing for all residents in Bayan Baru, as the prices of houses here have greatly appreciated. I am sure this also applies  to your house where you represented your community.

As regards to the heavy traffic jams happening here, it has existed a long time ago with the setting up of Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone (FIZ) near here. There is always a price to pay for progress and development. The jams do not only happen here. It covers other parts of Penang Island as well.

If you take a drive to Gottlieb Road and up to Tanjung Tokong onwards, the traffic there is equally heavy. We are not katak dibawah tempurung as not to know what is happening in other parts of Penang Island.

I am sure you know that Lim is doing his possible best to see to this traffic problem. He has started the shuttle service for the people in mainland Penang to leave their cars behind and to come to work in FIZ by bus. This is a start. Lim needs a lot of encouragement and support from Penangites.

You seem to emphasise the lack of C.A.T. (Competency, Accountability, Transparency) by the present state government. Isn't it better to have some form of C.A.T. rather than not to have one at all from the many years under the past government?

Be thankful that C.A.T. is being promoted. How successful it is will depend on the cooperation of the people and the state government.

Please bear in mind that you do not speak or give your views collectively as you do not in any way represent us residents in Sunway Tunas Bayan Baru. We are happy that there is a park in our area - even if it is on a roof top. We want a cleaner and greener Penang.

If you're are so nosy, please spend more time to ask your Gerakan president to return the hijacked land back to the people of Penang.

We don't need your opinion and comment either, as your party had been rejected by the people of Penang. We've a brighter future with Lim and his C.A.T. system that will bring Penang to greater heights, and that includes sPICE.
