Penang Public Accounts Committee (PAC) wants the state Gerakan youth to lodge an official complaint to enable the committee to probe the movement's allegation that Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng had misused public funds to stay in a luxury bungalow.

PAC chairperson Jagdeep Singh Deo also wants Gerakan youth to provide details and evidence to the PAC.

"Gerakan's allegation has serious implications and insinuations. It involves public funds.

"PAC demands details and evidence," said Jagdeep, the Datuk Keramat assemblyperson, at press conference in George Town today.

Last week Gerakan youth state vice-chairperson H'ng Khoon Leng lodged a report, urging the MACC to investigate if Lim had misused public funds to rent a bungalow in Jalan Pinhorn, George Town.

Lim had moved temporarily into the new bungalow after his official residence in Jalan Macalister was infested with termites.

H'ng has called on Lim to reveal and explain publicly the expenses incurred to renovate and refurbish his new bungalow.

Jagdeep said Gerakan youth should provide details of its MACC report to enable the PAC to conduct a thorough investigation.

"Otherwise we will assume that the allegation was mere empty talk," he said.

In an immediate response, state Gerakan youth chief Oh Tong Keong said the movement prefered MACC to probe the case because it had full confidence in the agency.

He suggested that PAC should apply to obtain Gerakan youth's report from MACC if it wanted to conduct its own investigation.

"We just want to keep our complaint to one agency. We don't want to mess up by reporting to others," said Oh.

Although PAC can apply to obtain a copy of the report, Jagdeep said the committee would prefer Gerakan youth to directly provide details of its allegations.

"Since it's an urgent matter, we hope the movement will do it soon," he said.
