Menteri Besar Zambry Abdul Kadir's statement that the BN state government is awaiting the greenlight from the National Land Council (NLC) to convert lease hold titles to freehold titles has got Perak DAP all riled-up.

"Is Zambry trying to 'sell out' the right of the state government in land matters to the federal government?" asked an an infuriated Nga Kor Ming.

zambry abdul kadir interview 200409 05 Zambry ( right )was reported to have said that 3,000 applications from new villages and planned villages to be processed from leasehold to freehold was on hold until the greenlight comes from NLC.

He also told the applicants that until such time, they get back their land titles submitted for conversion and premiums paid to the Land Office.

Zambry also said that a decision on the matter was expected after a meeting with the NLC next month.

Zambry ignorant of land matters

"How can he (Zambry) surrender state power over land matters to the federal government?" asked Nga. "How come as head of state, he does not know the fundamental right on land matters?

Nga said, the then Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak confronted Perak Menteri Besar Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin ( left ) during an NLC meeting last year and had told him that his state government cannot convert Perak land from leasehold to freehold without the approval of NLC.

"We (Nizar, Nga and Ngeh Koo Ham) told him off, as land matters come under the jurisdiction of the state government ," said Nga.

Playing to Najib's tune

"Now, Zambry is setting a precedent in surrendering state power on land matters to the federal government by playing up to Najib's wishes."

On Zambry's claim that BN has a different approach to conversion of land titles by proposing its own method to NCL to solve the problem., Nga said: "This clearly shows that BN is not receptive to the people friendly projects that Pakatan had implemented during our 10 months of rule of the state.

"I suspect there is another agenda by BN on the land matter which I will reveal later."

Nga had earlier stated that BN state government is putting all its people friendly projects in cold storage. This was hotly denied by Zambry, but unfolding events indicate otherwise.
