Despite being suspended from his position as PAS Shah Alam division chief and political bureau member, Khalid Samad today urged his supporters to take the matter in a positive light.

According to the outspoken Shah Alam MP, the reality was that he had achieved “the minimum” of his goals.

azlan “The actions of Dato Commissioner (referring to Selangor PAS commissioner Hasan Ali) ... has been publicly declared as wrong, and he has been sternly warned against issuing any statements that contradict and adversely affect Selangor Pakatan Rakyat,” he said in his blog .

“He can no longer make it seem as if his actions have the blessings of the top leaders,” said Khalid, who had earlier questioned why there were no disciplinary action taken against Hasan for issuing statements that went against Pakatan policies.

Hasan had publicly criticised the Selangor government’s Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat) and its grilling of civil servants on how former Barisan Nasional state representatives allegedly misappropriated state funds.

In a blog posting in September last year, Khalid disclosed five issues that he had brought up at an emergency meeting of the Selangor PAS liaison committee meeting.

For that indiscretion as well as his criticisms of Hasan, Khalid was yesterday slapped with a six-month suspension by the party’s disciplinary committee.

Hasan, in turn, was issued a stern warning for the public attacks against the Selangor government, such as its appointment of a non-Malay as the head of state development corporation PKNS.

Khalid may not appeal

Expressing his acceptance of the discipline committee’s decision, Khalid also explained why he went beyond what some would regard as proper in his criticisms of Hasan.

“I had long tried (to tackle the issues) internally, through letters to the party leadership, but nothing worked. The culture of obedience is so pervasive that it came close to blind obedience,” he said.

While it is expected that in a dispute between a ‘tauke’ and a ‘kuli’ that the former would come out tops, Khalid said that in this case, even ‘tauke’ Hasan was hit with a disciplinary action.

“Before determining on a course of action, I have been taught to carry out a risk analysis beforehand. I knew I risked being summoned in front of the disciplinary committee... I took the risk being fully aware (of its implications).

“I reap what I have sown,” said Khalid.

Addressing the question as to whether he would appeal, Khalid reiterated that he had yet to decide on the matter.

He suggested, however, that he may not appeal given the impending upcoming general election.

“Together, let us barge against Umno until they fall. That is the priority that we need to fulfill,” said Khalid.
