PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has denied claims by his former confidante Zahrain Mohd Hashim that he possessed a videotape depicting Selangor state exco member Elizabeth Wong in a compromising situation.

NONE "I didn't watch (the video). I don't know if he watches pornographic videos. I don't know what he does," Anwar ( left ), who is Permatang Pauh MP, told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

Yesterday, Zahrain accused Anwar of claiming to have a copy of the video and demanded Wong's resignation from government and party posts.

Zahrain also alleged that Anwar promised party leaders during a meeting that he would hold a screening of the video to prove it, but this did not take place.

He accused Anwar of lying to them during the meeting.

To this, Anwar brushed off Zahrain's claims and instead accused the latter of indulging in gutter politics and being a political mercenary.

"This is only hearsay, I don't have (such a video). If I have it, I will release it and that is my decision. Only then, we will take action (against Wong). But thus far, there is not a shred of evidence.

"If you have a political agenda, it should not be at the expense of engaging in character assassination, gutter politics or character attacks. It is unethical, immoral and unacceptable," he said.

Wong strikes back

In a related development, Wong slammed Zahrain for discrimination and prejudice against women.

NONE In a statement today, Wong ( right ) described herself as a victim of criminal intimidation who should not be subjected to continued harassment by Zahrain.

"It comes as no surprise that BN continues to subject me to political violence by assaulting and violating my personal life, by continuously victimising victims," said Wong.

Wong said it has been 14 months since she returned from her leave of absence after a storm brewed when intimate pictures of her surfaced on the Internet.

"It was the hardest decision I had to make then, and it has not become easier as time goes by.

"But I made a decision then to continue to serve my constituents, my state and country, and to send a message to all victims of criminal intimidation to stand firm and not retreat into silence," she said.

'Not a personal attack'

Meanwhile, Zahrain said he was not making a personal attack against Anwar during the parliamentary debate yesterday when he claimed that Anwar had lied and failed to provide the promised video of Elizabeth Wong.

“I just used the incident of Elizabeth Wong as an example to prove that Anwar had lied,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

Zahrain said Anwar’s claim of having the video was known among MPs and that he had made the claims during a talk at which other MPs were also present.

Zulkifli Noordin (Ind-Kulim Bandar Baru), who was also present, concurred with Zahrain and told reporters that he was there during the talk and could vouch for it.

Also present was Wee Chee Keong (Ind-Wangsa Maju), who claimed that this was an open secret among the Parti Keadilan Rakyat MPs.

Asked by reporters if they could provide evidence that Anwar had made such an allegation and to name other MPs present during the talk, the three MPs became defensive and refused to reveal names.

“Who are your political masters? Why don't you ask your political masters? Are you from Malaysiakini ? Why should I prove anything to you?” were among the questions hurled at reporters.
