Star RFM Sdn Bhd today said that it is conducting an investigation into events that led to 98.8 FM radio station deejay Jamaluddin Hassan being taken off the air yesterday.

Its chairperson Linda Ngiam said the investigation would also cover how the matter was handled by the staff in charge of the station.

She said in a statement that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has issued a letter dated Aug 18 to the station regarding certain contents aired by it that were deemed to be offensive.

NONE "We consider this a serious matter and will take the appropriate action," she said in response to queries from the media.

Born in Beijing and fluent in Mandarin, Jamaluddin (photo) or popularly known as "Jiama" among his fans hosts a popular Chinese morning programme “Say Hi to Malaysia” at the station from Monday to Friday.

He was asked to go on leave yesterday evening after the station received a letter from MCMC.

The 98.8 FM station is one of three radio stations owned by Star Publications (M) Bhd through Star RFM Sdn Bhd.
