A year has passed since the death of 14-year-old Aminulrasyid Amzah, but his memory, smeared by disparaging remarks and slanderous accusations, has yet to be cleared.

NONE “My son was shot dead and the police have defamed my son and my family by trying to conceal the crime committed against him,” said Aminulrasyid’s mother, Norsiah Mohamad ( left ).

Among them was former Selangor police chief Khalid Abu Bakar, who labelled Aminulrasyid as a “criminal”, said the grieving mother.

In the police report lodged today Norsiah demanded a retraction and an apology from Khalid, recently promoted as the deputy inspector-general of police (IGP).

She also wants Khalid and all other high-ranking police officials who had jumped the gun in making disparaging comments against Aminulrasyid to be investigated for attempting to cover-up the incident.

“I want my son’s name cleared... if this had happened to them, how will they react?

“Every time I pass the tree where the car crashed and my son was killed, it is as though my heart is being ripped out off my chest,” said Norsiah, who was in tears.

“On that day, before even we claimed my son's body, Khalid released a public statement that my son and his friend, Azamudin Omar, had tried to ram into the police vehicle and that they found a machete (parang) in our family car.

“The statement was made with bad intention and falsely portrays Aminulrasyid as a criminal in order to conceal a crime committed by the police,” said Norsiah.

Previously, Khalid had refused to take back his accusation and pointed at the family for being negligent in the upbringing of Aminulrasyid.

               

Uphold your promise, Najib, pleads mum

Holding back tears, Norsiah also asked Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to fulfill his promise  for a thorough investigation into the incident.

Referring to a letter from Najib dated May 7 last year, which was also attached to the police report, Norsiah demanded that Najib ensure that justice is served.

NONE “Khalid ( right ) was given a promotion... what were his contributions that he should be given a promotion?” she asked.

Norsiah was accompanied by lawyer N Surendran, Lembah Pantai parliamentarian Nurul Izzah Anwar and Lawyers for Liberty representative Fadiah Nadwa Fikri.

“The prime minister made a promise and we are here to demand that the promise is kept,” she said.

“He was a good son and we had raised him well... he was preparing to sit for the PMR (Penilaian Menengah Rendah) examinations and he targeted to score at least six As... does he sound like a criminal to you?” expressed the inconsolable mother.

Pointing out that if the police were discovered to have suppressed evidence pertaining to the case, Surendran said that they are committing a criminal offence.

Aminulrasyid was gunned down at the end of a high-speed chase near his house in the early hours of April 26 last year.

Aminulrasyid, who had taken his sister, Nor Azura Amzah’s Proton Saga, for a joyride along with his best friend Azamuddin Omar, was killed at Jalan Tarian 11/2 in Section 11, Shah Alam between 1.10am and 2am.

NONE Todate, Corporal Jenain Subi ( left ) is the only cop on trial for culpable homicide not amounting to murder of the teenager, although there were other officers in the patrol car and 21 shots were fired at Aminulrasyid.

Jenain was charged under Section 304 (a) of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to 30 years and a fine, if convicted.

“While the corporal is charged, Khalid gets off scot-free, this is why we say there a conspiracy in the works,” Surendran added.
