Najib should reprimand Hisham and Rais, too

your say 'As usual PM is doing the wrong thing. He should call up his home minister, information minister and Utusan editor and give them a good shelling.'

Scepticism abounds over PM-Christian group meeting

Anonymous_3e86: The rot has gone on far too long. It is time to put the foot down. The solution is simple - arrest the Utusan editors and the blogger under the Sedition Act.

Time and again, Utusan has published untruths and expects the government to act against others. But when the truth has been revealed, PM Najib goes around pacifying the others instead of reprimanding Utusan and culprits like Perkasa.

JBGUY: Let's not run down Najib and his resolve. He is after all a man in his own right and could be different from the previous PMs.

If after the meeting, he takes Utusan and the bloggers to task for spreading rumours that could cause racial conflict, then we must admire him, but on the other hand if he just slaps them on the wrist, then we know, he has no serious resolve to overcome the growing disparity amongst the races and therefore does not deserve to be PM of a united Malaysia.

Anonymous_3e86: The article above is unfortunately the truth. It is all a sandiwara . Najib has no balls to resolve the core issues. He will not jeopardise his position for the sake of other religions. It is obvious this is just lip service.

He merely want to to be seen as ‘putting out the fire', fire that has been set by his own people. But the ‘fire' will remain. Nothing will be resolved. It will just be verbal assurances. The culprit, mainly Utusan , will get away scot-free and continue fanning racial sentiments as it is Umno's mouthpiece.

Malaysian First: At first I thought I could believe in Najib and his 1Malaysia and Economic Transformation initiatives. But I was wrong. He is just the same as the other previous PMs - lip service only and no political resolve to settle national issues relating to race and religion.

I agree with the author's scepticism that nothing concrete came out from this meeting. Just feeling good, that's all. Najib is just playing sandiwara. I doubt his sincerity. He should take appropriate action against Umno's mouthpiece Utusan for playing with fire.

And this is not the first time and won't be the last as they feel that no action can be taken against them. If it is other media or individuals, I bet action would be swift.

Swipenter: Najib should haul those responsible in Utusan to his office to give them a good tongue lashing and a severe reprimand for their seditious and hate-mongering articles.

Why on earth is he asking the Christians to meet him when the former is not responsible for those inflammatory articles but Utusan ? What kind of logic is he applying? Shoot the accused and not the accuser when the former is innocent and the latter is playing with fire by accusing the Christians of something that they have not done.

This is the kind of attitude and mentality of Umno that is so disgusting to Malaysians who are decent, reasonable and fair.

Justiceseeker_Bill44: As usual PM is doing the wrong thing. He should call up his home minister, information minister and Utusan editor and give them a good shelling.

Cannon: The Christian representatives should have pressed for stern action to be taken against Utusan and the bloggers and for retraction and apology by Utusan and by the home minister of their seditious words.

Najib must prove his sincerity by action, and by not words. Sweet words have no traction with troublemakers who are out to foment strife. Christians will forgive, but they will look to the ballot box to resolve their deep grievances through a regime change, if that option is necessary.

SMC77: This is really funny. The modus operandi of BN remains the same in the latest smear campaign against Anwar Ibrahim and the seditious claim from Utusan . The perpetrators are not called to face the music by the authority.

Instead, the authority only interested to meet up with the bystanders and innocent parties. This doesn't make sense at all.

PM meets Christians: Hope for the best but...

Itstoffeesturn: Najib, if you are indeed the prime minister of Malaysia, there can be no two ways about this.

Firstly, you have to arrest the managing editor of the Utusan and detain him under the ISA, a law your government is so fond of using. Then just like your predecessor did to the Star during Operation Lallang, ban Utusan for at least one year.

Also censure Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein and Information Minister Rais Yatim. Actually, the last time in 1987, many members of parliament were arrested and detained for nothing under the ISA.

Now do the same thing to these two, that is, if you are indeed our prime minister.

Anonymous: Imagine a kid punched another kid for no reason at the school's playground. The headmaster came and told the victim not to challenge the kid who punched him.

Then he urged everybody to stay calm. He met the victim's parents. He talked to the press. He warned other people not to raise the issue again as this has been resolved. The only thing he did not do is reprimanding the bully.

Now what do you think? I think the headmaster is the bully's father.
