Umno needs to create a more systematic and efficient 'cyber warfare unit' to counter issues brought up by the opposition over the Internet, said Umno vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

ahmad zahid hamidi He said the existing unit needed to do more to deliver the party's mesage to the target audience besides taking on the opposition in answering issues.

"We have a bigger department but perhaps a systematic 'cyber warfare unit' needs to be set up to parry all attacks," he told reporters after opening Bentong Umno's annual delegates meeting today.

Also present was Pahang menteri besar Adnan Yaakob, who is also Bentong Umno head.

Ahmad Zahid ( left ) said clear and accurate information was important to gain the support of the people especially the youth and undecided voters.

In Muar, meanwhile, Johor Umno state liaison chairperson Abdul Ghani Othman called on Umno members today to remember the importance of strengthening unity to face the opposition pact which tried to erode the people's confidence in the party which forms the backbone of the BN coalition.

NONE Abdul Ghani ( right ) said unity was the only strong weapon to confront the opposition's style in instilling hatred among the community towards Umno.

"They fan feeling of hatred against Umno, connecting it to the weakness in administration and abuse of power as a strategy to enable them to win the people's support and power in the coming general election.

"They have branded Umno as an extreme racialist party in order to divert the people from giving support to BN which has Umno as its backbone," Ghani said when opening the Muar Umno divisional delegates meeting at the Dewan Jubli Intan in Muar today.

Ghani, who is also the Johor Menteri Besar, said the Malays needed to realise and should not take lightly the challenge posed by the opposition, and should strengthen unity in Umno.
