Tough talk by the authorities has not deterred Umno Youth from continuing with its rally plans for July 9.

mca youth agm 091010 khairy Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin (right) said the movement will proceed as planned and hinted that the movement would not even apply for a police permit to hold the rally.

“I feel that (about) the permit issue, the train has left. Whatever (the situation), (even) if the police want to give warning, Umno Youth will (still) attend.

“The time for warnings is over,” he said during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

Last Thursday, Khairy announced that the movement was holding the rally to show their support for the current electoral system.

He claimed that the rally had nothing to do with the Bersih 2.0 rally, which is calling for electoral reforms, and claims that their motives was to strenghthen democracy.

Bersih 2.0's principles compromised

Maintaining the movement’s position that the Bersih 2.0 rally was influenced by the opposition, Khairy said that PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim’s speech yesterday in Shah Alam reinforced the notion further.

NONE “Whether Anwar had a slip of the tongue or not, I don’t know. But it shows that there is an opposition agenda behind Bersih 2.0.

“Even though Bersih 2.0 leader Ambiga (Sreenevasan) had said no group can order the cancellation of the rally, but (Anwar’s) statement makes it look like he has influence.

“This means Bersih 2.0 is giving a chance to the opposition. From there, we can see Bersih 2.0's principles have been compromised. They have become an opposition tool,” he said.
