The political secretary to PKR Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin, Fareez Kamal Intizam, today decried an online campaign by Umno-friendly bloggers to paint him as a terrorist following his arrest at KL Sentral yesterday.

According to Fareez Kamal, the bloggers had gone as far as accusing him of trying to assassinate Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak at the federal capital's transport hub.

NONE The PKR Youth member and nine others were arrested after they, most of them dressed in yellow, tried to approach Najib to hand over a memorandum on the Bersih 2.0 electoral reform demands.

"In the 24 hours of my arrest, I have been severely attacked on Twitter , Facebook and on pro-Umno blogs that claim I was arrested for attempting to sabotage the Jalur Gemilang distribution programme.

"Some even went as far as saying that I had planned to physically harm or assassinate the PM because I am the founder of NGO Malaysia Youth Revolutionary Organisation.

"Dear PM, my name is Fareez. And I'm not a terrorist," he said, alluding to a popular Hindi movie where a man meets the president of the United States to show that not all Muslims are terrorists.

NONE Among others, pro-Umno blogs referred to the group, most in plain yellow shirts, as “rioters” who had “attacked” the PM.

The video and photos of the “sabotage” has also been circulating widely among pro-BN blogs and portals.

The PM was at the public transport hub to launch a Raise the Flag campaign ahead of national day on Aug 31.

“I am a member of the rakyat. The PM belongs to the people so it was my right to meet the PM.

“I love this country, and for the people of this country I want the PM to step down,” said Fareez, who was wearing a red T-shirt during the arrest.

He said the group had chanted “Reformasi” to show the PM that the people are “not afraid” and his arrest only shows there are different standards for Pakatan supporters and BN supporters.

Police said that the arrest was made upon information that “a group of people dressed in yellow were creating trouble”.

Four of the 10 arrested claim to have nothing to do with the activists, and that they were merely by-standers.

They are being investigated under Section 105 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
