'EC and NRD colluding to turn PRs into voters'
The Election Commission (EC) and the National Registration Department (NRD) could be colluding over the registration of permanent residents (PR) as voters, alleged PAS.
The Election Commission (EC) and the National Registration Department (NRD) could be colluding over the registration of permanent residents (PR) as voters, alleged PAS.
The party’s Selangor division today lodged a police report claiming that more than 1,000 foreigners with PR status have been made citizens overnight after PAS had blown the whistle on them.
PAS state election department secretary Mohamad Asri Sapar said this had occurred when he first filed an objection over new voters in the supplementary electoral roll with the EC on Aug 2.
The following day, said Mohamad Asri, the NRD had changed their status from PR to full fledged citizens.
He was shocked when he then received the information that 1,108 names he had detected as PR are now Malaysian citizens.
“I am concerned there are certain quarters trying to enlist non-citizens as voters,” said Mohamad Asri in his police report.
Accompanying him when lodging the report at the Shah Alam district police headquarters today was PAS Selangor secretary Khairuddin Othman.
In his report, Mohamad Asri, 37, said there is an element of collusion between the EC and the NRD to push through this “scam”.
“It is most upsetting that this illegal act not only jeapordises the country’s electoral process, but mars the integrity of the IC as well as national security,” he said.
Mohamad Asri submitted the 1,108 names along with his police report.
