PAS has set next Monday and Tuesday to get clarification from the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) and the Damansara Utama Methodist Church over the controversial raid last Wednesday.

PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali said the meeting with Jais has been scheduled for Aug 15, while that with DUMC representatives on Aug 16.

NONE “I have sent the fax, and I posted a letter as well, to them today. We asked for those dates to visit them.

“It’s up to them to set the times,” said Mustafa.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang on Sunday said the explanations would be sought before the party comes to any conclusion.

That same day, central committee member Dr Mohd Hasan Ali - who holds the Islamic affairs portfolio as a Selangor exco - also gave his side of the story to the raid on the multiracial dinner at DUMC.

Contacted today, Mustafa said several top party leaders will be participating in the closed-door meetings next week.

While it has yet to be finalised, it is believed Hadi and his deputy Mohamad Sabu will lead the delegation to Jais and DUMC.

Mustafa said it has yet to be decided whether a press conference will be held immediately after the meetings.

'Jais and DUMC should talk’

Meanwhile, the PKR Religious Improvement and Understanding Bureau joined the chorus of voices calling for all parties involved in the issue to sit down and smoke the peace pipe.

“For the bureau, we think that it is in the best interest of harmony that all sides, be it the church, Jais or any other parties to sit down together, get the proper information and find a solution,” said bureau head Ahmad Kassim.

He added that if all sides understand each other’s inclusive and exclusive rights, there is no problem that they cannot solve.

In the same vein, the bureau also expressed full support for the efforts to meet and discuss matters with Jais and the DUMC and hoped that it will lead to the best solution for Malaysia’s multiracial society.
