Selangor MCA has demanded that DAP's state executive councillors resign from their posts for their silence over the recent Jais raid on a church in Petaling Jaya.

NONE Public complaints bureau chief Theng Book (wearing blue jacket) slammed the excos, saying it is their job to speak up for the people as elected representatives.

He said it is hypocritical of DAP leaders to hide behind a gag order imposed by Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, and accused them of trying to distance themselves from the inconvenient truth.

"How can they (obey) a gag order? They say they believe in freedom of speech... When there is something for them to make noise, they make noise, but when it comes to work, they don't do (their work). The DAP excos should resign," he told a press conference in Petaling Jaya today.

"The people of Petaling Jaya are a little disappointed (by their silence). They must come out and state their stance against PAS on this," he said.

Theng Book pointed out, however, that the ultimate responsibility lies with Khalid as menteri besar, brushing aside Pakatan Rakyat accusations that the raid was orchestrated by the federal government through the Islamic Development Department, Jakim.

He said the law is "very clear" in that the excos merely assist the menteri besar in executing orders approved either by him or the state secretary, if authorised by the menteri besar.

Theng Book stressed that Jais' activities cannot be linked to the Selangor sultan who, despite being the head of Islam in the state, does not oversee enforcement issues.

"There are two matters that come under the state, which are land and religion, and the normal jurisdiction falls under the excos. Enforcement has nothing to do with the sultan.

"Is the sultan going to go in the (Jais) office to see the reports every day? Then the exco will simply makan gaji (slack off)," he said, referring to exco in charge of religious affairs, Hassan Ali of PAS.

‘Carry out independent probe’

Theng Book demanded that the state government forms an independent panel to probe the Jais raid that can come up with answers to satisfy all the parties concerned.

azlan He said it is ultimately the menteri besar's responsibility to explain his administration's conduct, but was sceptical over Khalid's (left) preparedness to do his part.

"At the end of the day, the menteri besar must answer but he's playing tai chi , and passing the issue around.

"We want an independent panel on this because we don't trust the state government (to) report on this.”

Theng Book declined to suggest who should sit on the panel, saying only that Khalid should select panellists who are not politicians and not aligned to any political parties.
