The Penang DAP headquarters in Jalan Talipon and Komtar assemblyperson Ng Wei Aik's service centre in Lorong Seratus Tahun were today found splashed with orange and red paint.

A car parked in front of Ng's service centre was also splashed.

According to witnesses, a group of six on three motorcycles came to Ng's service centre around 1.20am and threw five small plastic bags of orange paint, and one of red.

Ng assumed that the attack against DAP headquarters took place around the same time.

This is the second time Ng's service centre has been splashed with paint. The first incident was on June 30. His assistant had lodged a police report after that.

 Target of attacks

State DAP chairperson Chow Kon Yeow inspected the DAP headquarters this morning together with Ng, state committee Danny Law, with local councillors Ong Ah Teong and Lim Siew Khim.

Chow regretted that DAP headquarters had been targetted after a series of attacks against the party service centres.

"We don't know what's the reason, but we assume that it's due to dissatisfaction with what DAP is doing," he said.

"But is better for them to express their feelings through their votes during the next election. Such actions do not make any sense. Even if it cause us some problems, we still won't know their grievances. Why not tell us directly?"

He preferred those unhappy with the state government policies to hold a press conference or submit a memorandum. "Only those who are afraid of the truth will do this (splash paint)."

Chow ( right ) also criticised the police for not making any arrests, or charge anyone after so many police reports had been lodged over previous incidents.

"Those responsible will perceive that the police cannot find them and no action will be taken against them."

In a later press conference, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng condemned the incident and said he suspected it was linked to the mosque loudspeaker ban decision by the state fatwa committee recently.

"They intended to use the state government as a scapegoat but we are not involved at all."

The state exco member in charge of Islamic affairs, Abdul Malik, denounced Umno vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for saying the matter would not have cropped up if the state government had been sensitive to issues pertaining to the Islamic religion.

"He used to be in charge of Islamic affairs in the Prime Minister's Department - he should know that it has nothing to do with us."
