The Aidilfitri Malaysian Open House this year is to be held in the Permatang Pauh constituency in Penang on Sept 11, Information, Communications and Culture Minister Rais Yatim said.

The event, organised by the ministry, would be held at the field of SMK Guar Perahu in the state constituency of Penanti, from 11.30am to 1pm, he said.

NONE Rais said Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was scheduled to attend the open house which was expected to draw 10,000 guests.

The local people and those living nearby, such as in northern Perak and southern Kedah, were invited to attend the event, he added.

"We will experience Aidilfitri in a village setting and it is hoped that the event will reflect the 1Malaysia spirit of unity among the people," he told a news conference after chairing a post-cabinet meeting at his office yesterday.

Rais advised the people to discard conflicts and disputes in the spirit of ushering in the double celebration of Aidilfitri and Merdeka Day at the end of this month.

Aidilfitri is expected to fall on Aug 30 and 31. Aug 31 is Merdeka Day.
