Umno is not involved in organising the ‘Himpunan Sejuta Umat’ or Congregation of a Million (Himpun) scheduled for Saturday at the Shah Alam Stadium.

Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the allegation that Umno was the mastermind in organising the gathering was unfounded.

“Umno has nothing to do with it (gathering). It is through the efforts of NGOs (non-governmental organisations),” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby in Kuala Lumpur today.

He claimed that there were certain groups who tried to politicise the gathering by accusing that it was a programme by Umno which appeared to be trying to provoke racial sentiments.

Meanwhile, Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan, who also emphasised that Umno was not involved in organising the gathering, however, said that the party did not prevent its members from participating in the gatherng.
