PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin has dismissed her Umno counterpart’s challenge to urge PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to resign as a diversion from her alleged involvement in the National Feedlot Centre (NFC) scandal.

She stressed that the issue remained that the Auditor-General’s Report found the NFC project to be “a mess” and that Shahrizat Abdul Jalil and her family had allegedly misused public funds meant to develop the meat industry.

“In reality, it is the ministers who abused the rakyat’s money to fill family coffers who are biadap (rude). It is the ministers who felt no shame towards the rakyat (who put them in power) when their abuse is exposed who are Si Tanggang (ungrateful people),” she said in a statement today.

She said she should be sympathetic to the PKR president and her children instead because her husband was false accused and her children had to grow up without their father, PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

“A Wanita Umno chief should not follow Umno’s morally bankrupt political games of using false allegations and lewd videos to topple their opponents,” she said.

Rakyat, not Umno delegates, to judge

She further accused Shahrizat of dragging Wanita Umno into the issue in her speech at the Umno general assembly this morning, where she claimed the opposition’s attacks on her and her husband are aimed at the women’s wing as a whole.

Noting with disappointment that Wanita Umno delegates had defended Shahrizat, Zuraida said it is ultimately the rakyat, not the delegates, who would judge her.

“For certain, that judge would also punish not only the Umno women’s chief, but also all parties within Barisan Nasional.”

In Shahrizat’s speech, she challenged Zuraida to urge Wan Azizah to resign, on grounds that Anwar “has been convicted and punished for all kinds of offences”.

Shahrizat and her husband Mohamad Salleh Ismail, who is NFC’s executive chairperson, had been targets of opposition attacks over the alleged abuse of a RM250 million government soft loan.

Apart from the opposition, BN backbenchers had also called for the resignation.

However, Shahrizat had disclaimed any involvement in the scandal with Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's backing .
