A Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) student who was involved in the sit-in that resulted in a bloody scuffle with police on Sunday morning has been expelled from her residential college.

NONE According to UPSI student group Legasi Mahasiswa Progresif (LMP) coordinator Adam Adli Abdul Halim (right) , the student was informed of this yesterday, after she was released from police custody.

Contacted today, Adam Adli said that LMP secretary Siti Nurul Piteriah Abdul Halim (top photo) was expelled from Aminuddin Baki residential college.

He said another UPSI student who took part in the New Year’s demonstration may also face such disciplinary action, but it is yet to be confirmed.

“They have not been served a notice of an inquiry by the university authorities,” said Adam Adli, who does not reside at the Tanjung Malim campus.  

However, Malay daily Sinar Harian today quoted UPSI vice-chancellor Junaidi Abu Bakar as saying that Siti Nurul Piteriah will not be spared from disciplinary action.

smm protest in sultan idris university 010112 04 The daily also reported that the inquiry against Adam Adli for lowering a flag bearing Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s picture at the Umno headquarters would go on as scheduled at 3pm on Jan 9.

“Disciplinary action will also be taken for his involvement in the (New Year’s Eve) demonstration in front of the university premises,” the vice-chancellor was quoted as saying.

Asked if all three students have been barred from sitting for their examinations, Adam Adli said: “I will sit for the examinations and so will the other two. The university has no right to bar us.”
