Zaid determined to dissolve Kita despite objections
Despite objections by leaders in five states, Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air (Kita) president Zaid Ibrahim yesterday said that he will push ahead with his intentions to dissolve the party.
Despite objections by leaders in five states, Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air (Kita) president Zaid Ibrahim yesterday said that he will push ahead with his intentions to dissolve the party.
“The resolution will be presented at the forthcoming central committee meeting... at the end of the month,” he said when contacted.
This statement comes after state chiefs from Johor, Kedah, Penang, Selangor and Sabah last Friday announcing that they will not support any move to dissolve the party.
In his text message to Malaysiakini , Zaid said claims that he has backtracked on his intention to dissolve the fledgling party are "incorrect".
The rumour arose following party information chief Aziz Kadir's telephone calls to party leaders to explain the president's announcement on dissolution posted on the party website last Thursday.
Leaders want Zaid out instead
However, Aziz when contacted said he was merely informing the state chiefs that Zaid has yet to dissolve the party and that the latter's announcement was merely to state his personal views and intentions.
“The local chiefs should know that the party constitution says that Zaid has to have the support of three-quarters of eligible members to dissolve the party,” he said.
He added that Kita Kedah chief Zamil Ibrahim's call for Zaid to resign is also “stupid and insolent” and “does not follow proper party procedures”.
When contacted, Zamil ( right ) said a group of local leaders in Kita have vowed to oust Zaid regardless of whether he succeeds in dissolving the party.
“We feel disillusioned having a president like him. We urge him to respectfully leave the party and either accept PAS and BN's offers (for him to join them).
“We will discuss our further action (to oust him) if he fails to do so (quit the party),” he said.
