With less than 48 hours to go, local netizens are creating a Facebook "green wave" by changing their profile picture to that colour, in a show of support for Sunday's "Himpunan Hijau 2.0" rally in Kuantan.

Even local Chinese celebrities, normally seen as dodging current issues, are joining the bandwagon in a show of concern for the environmental risks posed by the setting up of Lynas Advanced Materials Plant (Lamp) in Gebeng, Kuantan.

NONE Among the celebrities to have changed their profile picture to the "Stop Lynas, Save Malaysia" green logo is popular singer Michael Wong , now based in Taiwan.

Other celebrities include Fish Leong, Yu Heng, Kah Jun, Will Ng, Danny One and local group DA.MON.STE.

"I am a Malaysian, I don't want radioactivity, I don't want rare earths," Will Ng says on his Facebook page.

Fish Leong's post reads: "Let us upload green photo to wash the wall! Hurry! Stop Lynas!!!"

Politicians are not shying away either. Among those who did the profile switch are DAP Serdang parliamentarian Teo Nie Ching and PKR Youth publicity chief Lee Khai Loon.

Meanwhile, some netizens also uploaded pictures of them holding up anti-Lynas posters as a sign of their anti-Lamp project sentiments.

NONE

Well-known art activist Chong Keat Aun is one of them. He uploaded a picture of himself and Buddhist priest Rev Miao Zhan holding a poster on Jalan Sultan, which is facing a land acquisition threat by the government for the multi-billion ringgit MRT project.

Around 20 Universiti Malaya students have also swung out in support, carrying posters with the "UM anti Lynas" war cry printed on them, around their campus yesterday.

The "Himpunan Hijau" rally at Kuantan's MPK4 field was made possible after the organisers struck a deal with Pahang police this morning.
