The action of police to release footages of what transpired during the Bersih 3.0 rally last April 28 has irked a commissioner of the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam).

suhakam memo shaani sha'ani 170412 Muhammad Sha'ani Abdullah ( right ) said the action was against the government's objective to set up an independent panel headed by former police chief Hanif Omar to probe alleged violence during the rally.

"All quarters, including the Home Ministry, police and media, should respect the setting up of the independent panel to investigate and reach a fair finding," Sha'ani said in a text message.

"Until then all forms of statements to allege or deny will only be seen as an effort to influence the investigation, or a form of pressure on those who will give their statements in the coming hearing."

Yesterday Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein announced that the video compilation would be ready within two days.

Hishammuddin said the video, which would be made available to the media and uploaded on the ministry's website once ready, contained "the good, bad and the ugly" visuals received from many parties throughout the rally.

"It is a genuine footage. I want people to look at it in the proper perspective," he said.
