He was asking the Works Ministry about when the road from Kota Kinabalu to Sindumin is going to be upgraded to a dual carriageway as promised by Works Minister Shaziman Mansur during his visit to Miri in April.
Deputy Works Minister Yong Khoon Hian, who fielded the question, however said that the promise was not only for that stretch of road but for the entire Pan-Borneo Highway.
Yong explained that the allocation is being released in stages and work will be done by segments as it would not be possible to upgrade the entire 1,800km-stretch simultaneously.
“Work will be done in stages,” clarified the deputy minister.
The slow pace of basic infrastructure development in East Malaysia despite billions in federal allocations has disappointed even BN MPs from the Borneo states.
The dissatisfaction is said to be key factors in why two Sabah MPs abandoned BN to be Pakatan-friendly recently.
The matter is a major component of campaigns by both sides as Pakatan continue to make inroads into what was once BN’s East Malaysian fixed deposit.
