Malay daily Sinar Harian has dismissed PKR deputy president Azmin Ali's allegation that it had misreported his statement on Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim to drive a wedge between him and Khalid.

" Sinar Harian will not spin the facts, instead we report every news based on the truth, without siding any groups and in line with our motto - transparent and honest," said its executive editorial advisor Abd Jalil Ali in a statement published by the daily today.

" NONE Since the beginning of this newspaper publication about five years ago, it has been our principle to report whatever based on the truth, not spinning the truth to boost sales."

He said the interview with Azmin ( left) was in Parliament, witnessed by several other reporters.

"What we published was the recorded interview by reporter and photographer. There was completely no spinning or misreporting. Our reporter can show the evidence relevant YB had said," contended Abdul Jalil.

Without naming anyone, Abdul Jalil reprimanded those who would accuse the media of spinning facts if their original statement reported in media result in negative impact on themselves.

NONE "It always happens, but we will not lose faith. On the contrary, we will continue to uphold journalistic professionalism by reporting the truth regardless of which party the reports come from," he added.

Last Wednesday, Sinar Harian front paged a report entitled "New MB after 13th general election" quoting Azmin as saying that Khalid could be replaced as Selangor menteri besar if Pakatan captures Putrajaya, given his expertise in governing Selangor.

However, Azmin told Malaysiakini the next day that the Malay daily has misreported his statement.

"I understand Sinar Harian may have its ulterior motives. But do not drive a wedge between me and Khalid. I have respected the party's decision and support his administration.

"I did not touch on the issue of reshuffling in the Selangor leadership as reported in the daily which had diverted from the topic under discussion," he said.
