The police has promised a second identification parade for journalist Radzi Razak, who was allegedly assaulted by the police during  the Bersih 3.0 rally.

The promise was made by senior investigation officer Kamarul Rizal Jenal to the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam), during a public inquiry today into human rights abuses during the rally.

NONE Quizzed by inquiry panel head Khaw Lake Tee, Kamarul, who is investigating the alleged assault on Radzi ( right ), promised that another 30 police personnel would be paraded before the journalist.

Khaw: We expect a identification parade by next week. Can you do this? Is this beyond your abilities?

Kamarul: Yes.

Khaw: If the police can arrest Bersih protestors based on pictures alone, (surely) you can call another 30 (police personnel) to be identified.

Kamarul: Yes (we) can.

In May, journalist Radzi Razak said that most of the police personnel which appeared in the first identification parade were " too old " and thus did not identify anyone.

A second identification parade was slated for May 25, but it was postponed indefinitely.

Chosen at random

Asked by the panel for details on the first lineup, Kamarul said the older police personnel were included because it would help investigations.

"It dosn't mean that the suspects (that are lined up) would be based on the complainant's description. So we included those from a different age group.

"So there are young and old... If we put old individuals, it might provide additional information. If we just put young personnel, investigations might be hampered," he said.

He added that investigations involve more than 1,000 police personnel who were on duty at the Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and Jalan Tun Perak junction during the rally on April 28.

"I need to (take statements). The 30 individuals (in the first lineup) were chosen randomly," he said.
