Pro-AES supporters who protested against the state's decision to disallow the automated electronic system to punish traffic offenders have gone "missing", said Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's private secretary.

Farida Hani Yaacob said that while the group had wanted to meet the state government, they could not be reached for an appointment.

2012 selangor dap convention 041112 lim guan eng The group had sent Lim ( left ) a memorandum on Nov 1 asking the state to implement the system, which has been heavily criticised, even by Umno Youth.

A major criticism against the AES was that a percentage of the fines paid would go to two private companies contracted to operate the system.

"Upon receiving the document, Lim had requested for the meeting to be held with the group on Monday, Nov 5, at 10am at the state legislative assembly or any other convenient date," said Farida Hani in a statement.

"As the memo did not carry any name or contact numbers, we requested the assistance of Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy," she added.

"However, we received word that they do not want to meet us. This shows that they are not serious and merely wanted to create trouble outside the Dewan Negeri," she stressed.

Farida Hani claimed that the group had been "tricked" by certain quarters that they would be paid RM50 and given a hamper if they turned up to show support for the AES.

She condemned the organisers whom she described as "irresponsible for lying and creating disturbances outside a government building. It is clear that there are ‘professional' groups who are paid to demonstrate against the state government."

The Transport Ministry, in a letter dated Oct 31, had postponed a meeting with the state government over the controversial system.
