Despite the Pakatan Rakyat-led state governments' firm stand against the implementation of the Automated Enforcement System (AES), Transport Minister Kong Cho Ha reiterated that the ministry has closed its doors for discussion.

NONE “Director-general of the Road Transport Department (RTD) had met with the Selangor government before, (so) we don’t think that we need to see them (again),” Kong replied when asked  whether the ministry would renegotiate the AES with the Pakatan state governments.

Nevertheless, Kong ( above, left in photo ) said his ministry was willing to meet with any organisation to discuss the AES.

Despite that, when pressed on whether the ministry would meet with PAS-backed anti-AES group Kempen Anti Saman Ekor (Kase), Kong said that would depend on the “sincerity” of Kase.

“If it is not sincere, no need,” he said with a laugh.

Earlier, he held an hour-long discussion on the traffic summons system with the Federation of Chinese Associations of Malaysia (Huazong) at the ministry’s office in Putrajaya.

‘Worthless’ to debate with Liu

On the vandalising of four AES cameras in Perak, which was reported yesterday, Kong claimed “Liu might know who is behind the vandalism.

NONE “The police should investigate (the acts of vandalism in Perak), especially those who always say they want to vandalise (the AES cameras)”.

Pressed on who he was referring to, specifically, Kong uttered “ Ronnie Liu ” ( left ), who is the Selangor executive councillor in charge of local government.

The damaged cameras are located at KM205.6 near Kamunting and KM373.2 in Slim River, along the North-South Expressway, along Jalan Pasir Putih and in Sungkai.

Kong added that he would not debate the matter with Liu.

“What debate? I think he (Liu) just wants to get cheap publicity… It is worthless to debate (with Liu)”.

Liu: How should I know?

However, when contacted, Liu denied that he knew the mastermind behind the vandalism of the AES cameras in Perak.

“I am not God. Don’t simply blame me. I am not a Perak exco member, how could I know?” Liu told Malaysiakini .

The issue of the vandalism of AES cameras in Selangor has previously led to a battle of words between Liu and Kong.

NONE Meanwhile, Huazong president Pheng Yin Hua ( right, in picture ) said the group had appealed to the Transport Ministry to delay the AES implementation.

“The people need some time to get used to it… And AES warning signages should also indicate the speed limit”.

As such, Pheng urged the ministry to temporarily suspend the erection of the remaining AES cameras “until the people agree on it”.
