Mega Ultimate, the private event company purportedly paying for top Korean pop star Psy's performance in the Penang BN's Chinese New Year open house, continues to keep mum about the details of its sponsorship.

NONE Its systems engineer Anthony Chow Chee Ming ( right ) agreed only to be interviewed on "technical matters" involving the show to be held at the Han Chiang College on Monday.

Journalists pressed him for details on the sponsorship and expenditure, but Chow merely said "No comment. I will only talk about technical matters".

According to DAP Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi, Psy or Park Jae-Sang, has offered a 'fixed price' of US$500,000 (or RM1.5 million) to perform his hit song 'Oppa Gangnam Style' at this Sunday's event.

However, the BN insists that it is not footing the bill, adding that "we are not paying a single sen " for his world-famous performance.

The BN decision to invite Psy to attract the crowd to its function drew mixed reactions , with many fans urging him on his Facebook fan page not to come to Penang at the ruling coalition's behest.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has called on Penangites to attend the celebration, urging them to wear yellow for Bersih, green for the environment and red for change.

Lim's suggestion was frowned upon by Prime Minister Najib Razak, dismissing Pakatan Rakyat as " envious " because BN got to Psy first, while his deputy Muhyiddin Yassin described Lim's remark as "stupid".

80,000 crowd spells trouble

Chow said Mega Ultimate has organised concerts for other artistes in the past, most recently Canadian-born Chinese singer Wanting and Korean Group 2am.

NONE He added that Monday's event could well be one of the biggest crowds that the company would handle, if it hits the 80,000 mark.

"If the crowd hits 80,000, this may be the biggest crowd we have had to handle.

"But we treat every concert as a grand show and this time, we are able to meet all their requirements," Chow told reporters at the concert site yesterday.

He then explained in detail the preparations for the mega-show, which includes speakers and lighting, with 60 staff deployed to set up the stage.

He was accompanied by state BN Youth chief Oh Tong Keong,who said 14 LED big screens (30ft x 40 ft) would be set up at every corner of the college.

The stage would be 200ft wide and 50ft high, he added.

All out to help fans

"We have identified five parking locations and will hang big banners along the road side to show where they are " said Oh, who is also state Gerakan Youth chief.

NONE "We have asked the police and the Penang Municipal Council to cordon off the road, so that the people can come in through the college's entrance on Jalan Lim Lean Teng," he added.

The people are advised to come early to get places and to avoid the traffic jam.

"Although we estimate the crowd to be around 80,000, we only managed to get 20 caterers to provide food for 40,000 people. We will also be giving out 15,000 boxes of free Mandarin oranges," Oh said.

"People can start entering the Han Chiang field from 7am onwards. We will have 400 to 500 community police and 100 security volunteer members there by 6.30am."

Prime Minister Najib Razak, expected to arrive at 10.45am, will be greeted by a big group of lion dancers and 30 Chingay performers, Oh added.
