Umno MP: Strengthen stance against political violence

your say Kingfisher: The Temerloh MP remains one of the few Umno leaders who has won a lot of goodwill from ordinary Malaysians through his honesty and sincerity.

Umno needs more leaders like him who can genuinely - and in the interest of the nation and not any political party - advise the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) to carry out its responsibilities in a fairminded manner.

Multi Racial: So far Deputy Higher Education Minister Saifuddin Abdullah seems to be the only politician in BN who is worth voting for.

If BN wants to see real reform, they need to have more leaders like Saifuddin. He is one leader from BN whom I will urge all to vote for if he contests in the coming GE.

In fact moving forward, we want to see more intelligent, moderate, sensible and vocal politicians on both sides represented in the Parliament and state assemblies rather then ‘yesmen' and ‘yeswomen'.

What is so difficult to state that black is black and white is white? The facts are there, just accept it when you are wrong and apologise for your mistake. This MP will be a survivor after GE13. Take my word for it.

Islander: Umno should lose power for at least one term so that all those corrupt and useless ones can be gotten rid of and a new breed of leaders like Saifuddin can rise to the top.

It can then start afresh and build a corruption-free, fair and rakyat-caring Umno, not only just for the Malays but for all Malaysians.

Tehachapi: Truth is the most powerful tool in winning hearts and minds of the people, it is powerful enough to speak gently and plainly without being accompanied by mindless noises to distract  fromthe main goal of getting the message across.

To threaten a worthy political opponent in public speeches is not only bad behaviour, but a pervasion of just cause. It is only in open debate will the people discover who is a real leader and who is a fake and a chameleon.

People are smart enough to find out for themselves and given enough time and opportunities, truth will be revealed.

If only PM Najib Razak dares to stand on the same platform with Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim to argue and debate on his transformation programme and development strategies, the people can then better judge who is more credible one to be entrusted with their future.

By avoiding direct debate and resorting to underhanded methods of competition will not win votes in a country which is rapidly gaining maturity.

Regardless of its current weak public standing, the Umno-BN coalition should not approach the GE13 preoccupied with knee-jerk actions for fear of losing power.

It is dangerous to open the treasure trove and engage in mindless largess with no thought for the morrow. Only a dying man or woman indulge in such kind of behaviour.

Since the negative mindset will only work to its disadvantage and cause more blunders, it is critical that Umno-BN leaders conduct themselves with full confidence.

Its past records are there for all to behold and there is no need to embellish them. There is no use to be panicky. Rather it should look at the opponent squarely in the eye and compete fairly.

Engage the opponents and debate them courageously without hiding behind a veil. Be forthright and honest, that is the only viable solution for survival and it may even succeed.

KnockKnock: Saifuddin alone is not enough, unfortunately there's only one of his kind in Umno. Should there be 20 Umno MPs like Saifuddin, I'll jump ship to Umno for as it is I have yet to choose a party that I can trust fully.

And as for now, it's too late for Umno people to behave as mature and thoughtful leaders like Saifuddin, thus come GE13 my support is for Pakatan Rakyat.

Appum: Yes, Saifuddin, be true to yourself always. We know yours is a lone voice in the wilderness but please continue to speak up to put sanity back into our society.

We can't trust or depend on our home minister to keep peace anymore. He sounds like he doesn't know his duties and responsibilities.

I disagree, there is no need to postulate or second guess anything - the violence and disturbance are caused by paid supporters/thugs financed by certain fascist parties in the country. Even a nincompoop knows who are behind them.

Jean Pierre: Saifuddin is correct in saying that sometimes we don't know which side the instigators are.

For example, Gerakan may throw eggs and coffee at themselves and smash their own office doors. However, most of the time we know who they are.

Tan Kim Keong: I'll vote for Saifuddin Abdullah if he is not in racial political party. However, I'm elated to know that someone with integrity like him is carrying the torch of humanity and trying to change the DNA of Umno.

Cascara: Saifuddin appears to be a square peg in a round hole. How did this happen?
