The Education Ministry has directed a secondary school teacher in Gelang Patah, Johor, to be temporarily transferred to the Johor Bahru District Education Department after she allegedly made racist remarks.

Director-general Abdul Ghafar Mahmud said this was a preliminary step pending the completion of a police probe into a complaint by a student’s mother.

He said the ministry has received a report on an internal probe but that the final decision is being studied.

"The police are still investigating based on a report lodged by the family of the student,” Utusan Malaysia quoted him as saying in a statement.

The daily reported that the student’s mother had lodged the police report last week, after being told that the teacher was racist and had incited students to hate the government.

The teacher, who is Chinese, used abusive and racist language to describe the government as well as Malay students, claimed the parent.
