PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution's appointment as the Selangor government's political liasion officer is to aid rural development, Selangor MB Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said today.

Khalid refused to answer questions on the criticism of Saifuddin's appointment made by state PKR chief Azmin Ali.

"We feel we need to acknowledge people who have the talent and ability to help us fulfill our manifesto," he said curtly during a press conference after the first state executive council meeting for this term in Shah Alam.

Azmin had questioned the wisdom of appointing Saifuddin - who lost his battle for the Kulim-Bandar Bharu parliamentary seat in Kedah - into a role in the state administration, instead of Selangor PKR leaders.

NONE Azmin ( left ) also said Saifuddin's appointment was never discussed by the state party leadership at its meetings.

On this matter, Khalid said he had nothing to say in response to Azmin's criticism.

The party leaders, he said, would discuss the possibility of appointing a PAS and a DAP representative into similar roles in the state government, as demanded by the two parties.

"We will discuss it with the leaders before making a decision," Khalid said, refusing to confirm if he has any intention of appointing individuals from those two parties into state liaison positions.
